Pact Group expands capacity of locally sourced post-consumer recycled resin

28 November 2019

From December 2019 we will be able to offer our customers substantial volumes of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), recycled high density polyethylene (rHDPE) and recycled polypropylene (rPP) for inclusion in our broad range of packaging including food, bottles, personal care, household and industrial products.

Pact has a well-established Sustainability Division that has been recycling post-industrial resin since the Company’s inception and has grown to be the largest recycler of post-industrial resin in the southern hemisphere. Every year the Group converts more than 30,000 tonnes of resin per annum which may otherwise end up in landfill.

Pact Sustainability Executive General Manager Andrew Smith said “Recycling post-consumer waste is more challenging due to the level of contamination in the waste stream and level of processing required to be able to create high quality recycled food grade resin. Over the past year we have committed to expand our capacity to recycle post-consumer waste by an additional 35,000 tonnes per annum. Our increase in volume of locally sourced and processed post-consumer recycled resin demonstrates our considerable progress towards achieving the Group’s 2025 End of Waste Promise, a pledge centred on leading the industry toward a circular economy”.

Pact Groups 2025 End of Waste aspirational targets are:
• By 2025 Pact Group will eliminate all non-recyclable packaging that it produces.
• By 2025 Pact Group will have solutions to reduce, reuse and recycle all single use secondary packaging
in supermarkets.
• By 2025 Pact Group will offer 30 per cent recycled content across its packaging portfolio.
