Pact Group Wins 2016 WorldStar Packaging Award for Flip Top Cream Cap

2 December 2015

The WorldStar competition is one of the major events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and is the pre-eminent international award in packaging. Judging took place over two days in October 2015 when representatives from 17 packaging associations and members of WPO, judged 265 packaging projects, from 37 countries, that applied for WorldStar Awards 2015.

Pact’s Flip Top Cream Cap innovation (also known as the Easy Pour and Seal Lid) on Devondale’s 300ml cream bottles is more sustainable with a lower carbon footprint than the previous closure and features improved tamper evidence. The primary benefit of the closure is the easy open flip top lid with a curved hinge to keep the lid open while whilst pouring. The opening is designed to permit access with table spoon or pouring direct from container. The arched hinge allows the flip lid to be fully opened and eliminates the need to remove the closure from the jar.

The flip top lid has been designed with both a primary and secondary seal to improve the sealing performance which results in no leakage for the consumer.  The flip top lid makes opening the cream bottle a single action allowing consumers to break the tamper evidence in one step as opposed to the traditional two stage process of the former design. The flip-top cap also conquers the common consumer complaint of the cream splattering when the tamper evident ring of the old style cap is unravelled and the cap removed.

The Flip Top Cream Cap has received numerous industry accolades including the 2015 World Dairy Innovation Award in the Best Dairy Packaging Innovation category.

The complete list of winners of WorldStar Awards 2015 is published at www.worldstar.org. The results will also be published on WPO’s website – www.worldpackaging.org.
